Our Story
We are Maria (from Minnesota) and Pablo (from Argentina). We met when Maria was studying abroad in Buenos Aires in 2005 and lived together in Argentina for about 7 years. We moved to the Bay Area in 2012, got married in 2015, and now have three children Joaquin (4), Mia (3), Francesca (1). We know first-hand how hard it is to find high-quality Spanish children’s books in the US.
Spanish Book Box was born one night when we were reading to our 6 month old son and we realized how hard it was to find high-quality Spanish children’s books in the US. All we could find were translations of American favorites. When Pablo got laid off in COVID, we decided to go for it and figure out the logistics.

We foster cultural awareness through reading more about everyone’s experience
Our goal is to allow parents to spend time talking with their children about the story, pictures, and words. Each book is hand-selected carefully and intentionally to do just that through the lens of different talented authors from Latin America and Spain.
Our Mission
We believe that having access to conscious children's books is a good place to start talking about family values as your child grows. Our Spanish stories are selected through illustrations and texts written by independent, multicultural authors that brings simple and pure awareness of complex subjects about immigration, discrimination, not traditional families and stereotypes of book's protagonists in pictures.
The parents who take the time to read with their children will explore and identify things they come across in daily life through fully illustrated stories that interpret what is out there. Our goal is that through each book, your children will come to have a better understanding of the world—a World in which your children are creating their own unique relationship with.

Our Selection Process
We personally review hundreds of books each month written by talented authors from different cultures who have focused their careers on a multi-culturally balanced children's world. We try to meet with them (virtually), discuss learning experiences that also reflect parts of their own childhood to try to understand the journey of how each book came to be.
From the urban streets of Buenos Aires to the vibrant countryside of Guatemala to the coast of Mexico and all the way to the most Northern provinces of Spain, we learned to value children's books and stories that are influenced by the cultural and ethical perspective of its authors. It is our passion that you enjoy a little slice of each country directly from your home.
